CAEC & Math Instructor
(Canadian Adult Education Credential)
Contract Position – September 8, 2026 to June 25, 2027
The Dartmouth Learning Network (DLN) is a charitable organization that provides educational opportunities for adults to improve skills in reading, writing, numeracy and digital skills as well as prepare for an adult high school diploma or equivalent (CAEC). All DLN programs are free and supported by the Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning (NSSAL).
We are hiring for the position of INSTRUCTOR, Math and CAEC prep. This is a 40 week contract position (renewable annually) offering 30.0 hours per week (24 instructional hours + 6 prep hours), Monday to Thursday.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare lesson plans in accordance with course syllabi for all five CAEC exam subjects: Reading
comprehension, Writing, Social Studies, Science and Mathematics. (materials provided by DLN) - Instruct and evaluate students in subject areas.
- Track student attendance, and progress
- Provide coaching and academic guidance to students as needed
- Introduce and effectively use technology in class
The CAEC is a nationally recognized high school equivalency credential (formerly GED). The CAEC is awarded to learners who demonstrate a general high school competency in five subjects – reading, writing, math, science and social studies.
SKILLS:
- Teaching experience/certification, including adult education
- Literacy Practitioner certification an asset
- Knowledge of CAEC program
- Excellent math skills and basic computer literacy
- Patience and understanding in working with adult learners
Compensation: $31.52/hour, 4% vacation pay and cost-shared pension and health benefits.
