On June 6th, Dartmouth Learning Network honoured volunteer Hilde Carson with its fourth annual volunteer of the year award. This award is given to a volunteer who not only helps Dartmouth Learning Network work towards its vision and mission, but also contributes to its learner, volunteer, and staff community. Hilde was recognized for her thirteen years of dedicated volunteer service with DLN as a Board Member (2012 - 2015), tutor since 2007 and fundraiser with the Dartmouth Learning Network Bridge Club since 2006.
As a tutor, her versatility, resourcefulness and openness to taking on new and different situations are second to none, demonstrating how resourceful she can be when it comes to tutoring learning differences and learning styles. As a volunteer, Hilde consistently participates in and supports Dartmouth Learning Network workshops, learning round tables and special events. She is a familiar face at potlucks and holiday gatherings sharing delicious recipes and engaging conversation. And, Hilde is always supportive of fellow volunteers, sharing her own experiences, her “feel good” moments and offering words of encouragement and advice.
As a volunteer tutor, Hilde has had a tremendously positive influence on learners, helping to increase their confidence as they successfully progress through their learning journeys. Hilde is kind, helpful, engaging, patient, supportive and accommodating; ready and willing to take on any situation while being sensitive to her learner’s needs. She is truly invested in contributing to a positive community spirit and delights in sharing her joy of volunteering. Congratulations Hilde!
