All the programs offered at the Dartmouth Learning Network are free of charge. All you need to do is call the office at 902 464-3444 to set up an appointment for an assessment. The programs offered at DLN are as follows:


One-One Tutoring

The tutoring program runs from September - June. Once you have been assessed you will be paired with a tutor who will work with you on the areas you have identified. In the tutoring program you can study all levels (1 - GED). You will meet with the tutor once a week for 1.5 - 2 hrs/wk at a spot convenient to both learner and tutor.

Classroom Programs

  • Level 1
    The Level 1 program runs from Sept. - June, Mon - Fri. Level 1 is classroom learning and is divided up into three levels: A, B and C with level A being the lowest level. At this level the learner will be introduced to the basics of letters and numbers. The learning will go from 1) learning the alphabet and numbers to 2) learning how letters are used to express an idea or thought and how to use numbers to add and subtract.

  • Level 2
    The level 2 program runs from Sept. - June, Mon. - Thurs. Level 2 is also classroom learning and is made up of two levels: A and B with A being the lowest level. The learner will be dealing with more complicated writing and math.

  • Employment Readiness
    This is for the learner who is at Level 2 and wants to improve their Employment Readiness skills. Click here for more information on the Employment Readiness class to get an idea of the topics to be covered.
  • Computer Training
    This is offered to all learners at the Dartmouth Learning Network and includes the use of interactive software to assist the learning process. The classes are delivered at specific times to accommodate all the learners. It includes working on material covered in class as well as doing job searches, resume creation, and other job readiness activities.

Community Projects

  • Family Learning Initiative
    A learning initiative that involves the whole family and is funded by the Dept of Labour and Advanced Education.  Workshops that include caregivers and their children are delivered in the Dartmouth community through partnering with community organizations.
  • Seniors
    Seniors projects  are the result of collaboration and partnering that  takes place with the Cherry Brook Lake Loon Seniors group, the Dartmouth Learning Network and Seniors Nova Scotia.
  • Gambling Awareness
    This project was funded by the Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation renamed the Gambling Association of Nova Scotia (GANS) in 2011. The intent of the project was to assess the ability of adult learners to understand the messages about problem gambling as presented by Capital Health. The second phase of this project is on hold due to the integration of GANS with the Nova Scotia Health and Research Foundation.
